This is all fine and well, but….

Florida’s Equine Industry Valued at $900 Million in Annual Economic Impact | Paulick Report – Thoroughbred Horse Racing News

I get that this industry brings in a lot of revenue into the state, but they really aren't focusing on how they can properly allocate some of the funds either.  Because of over-breeding and because there are horses that do not pan out to race, many of these horses either end up dumped in empty fields of South Dade County or on the slaughter trucks.  Why not use some of the funds to prevent that, in addition to making sure the ones that successfully race go to great retirement facilities?  This article only glorifies the racing industry, but the ugly truth is many horses that come from some great bloodlines just don't measure up on the track.  Although much money is spent on breeding them and selling them, they just end up as discards because they never made a profit for their owners. The real economic impact comes from the rescues that recover them and have to get them back to health, rehabilitate and re-home these horses.  They should be getting a portion of the profits as well!
